Music is a ghost.
An old melody can be buried away for decades, lost and forgotten in some dark room. But as soon as it’s played, it flies through the air - back from the dead and haunting everyone who hears it.
This is the basis for our short film, Jumpin’ Jacob, a ghost story based on one of these old, forgotten tunes - and the effect it has on the Girl who hears it.
This film is being produced by sibling filmmakers Alexander and Veronica Deeds. Only fourteen months apart, they’re basically twins, and they bring that twin simpatico super power to every collaboration.
When we were growing up, it was always the quiet horror films that followed our imaginations back home from the theater. We believe that the scariest things you see are the ones that you just barely catch out the corner of your eye, and that the scariest sounds you hear are the ones you're not entirely sure you heard.
Our inspiration for Jumpin’ Jacob came from films that share this principle - films like Session 9, The Innkeepers, Gerald’s Game, and the 2018 Netflix mini-series, The Haunting of Hill House - valuing atmosphere and suspense over cheap jump scares and gross-out effects.
Using restraint and limitation as its inspiration, Jumpin’ Jacob is a ghost story that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
